I would like to introduce myself as the newest member of the DWH team.
My role on the DWH team is to facilitate communication among investigators, key personnel, the NIH, and the other consortia institutions by utilizing the Healthy Gulf/Healthy Communities Website, E-mail listserv lists, and the Sharepoint server. I will occasionally visit each project site and accompany the research team into the areas of study. My role also is to provide assistance with IRB submissions, material transfer and other agreements necessary for the successful completion of the specific aims. I will be working directly with the project directors, investigators, key personnel, the NIH, and the three other consortia institutions.
I spent the past nine years working in the department of medicine as a grants specialist. Essentially, I assisted faculty and staff with completing and submitting grant applications to various agencies. I also administratively managed grant awards; many projects from cradle to grave. I worked with granting agencies on just-in-time requests, extensions, carry-forward requests, change PI requests and close outs, just to name a few. Each granting agency award is fundamentally managed in a similar manner regardless of the study goals. While, I helped with several very exciting novel projects, my role basically did not allow for direct participation in the research. My new role as the DWH project coordinator will allow a more active role in the project. I am excited about this change.
